Student Organization Officer Training (Required for All Student Organizations)Trainings for Fall 2009 have completed. More information on training for Spring 2010 will be posted in mid-late December. Congratulations on your position as a leader in your organization! We fully understand that being an officer in a student organization is a time consuming, and sometimes daunting task. While there are numerous resources on campus at your fingertip, officers often do not know all the information that will help make them the most successful they can be. Because of that fact, Emory’s Office of Student Leadership & Service (the primary University departmental advising contact for all SGA student organizations), the SGA Business Office (the primary University departmental business and finance contact for all SGA student organizations), along with SGA and each of SGA’s divisions have developed a new required Student Organization Training. We can assure you this time will be invaluable to you and your success as a leader in your organization, and we promise to honor your time as you attend. All Student Organizations must send three officers to Student Organization Training. In the past, the Treasurer has been the only officer that has been officially trained. Now, in addition to the Treasurer, the President and one Additional Officer must also be trained. This other officer should be either the Co-President, Vice-President, or Chief Event Planner/Programmer for the organization. These are the three officers that are listed on the Student Organization Registration form that is updated at least once a year by the newly elected president. The officers do not have to attend the same session, but should attend a session during the first two weeks of September as all student organization officers must be trained this fall. Keep in mind, these sessions are open to ANYONE in an organization that would like to attend, including your advisor; however, it is required for the President, Additional Officer and Treasurer. Dates for Fall 2009 are listed here. ALL STUDENT ORGANIZATION OFFICERS indicated in this policy must be trained in September (Presidents, Treasurers, and one Additional Officer). November dates are primarily for newly elected officers that transition/take office in those months, or if you are elected in the fall but take office in the Spring, you may also attend the November session. Because this is the first year, several Divisions have worked with us to agree to begin implementing the consequences outlined below beginning November 15, 2009. While ALL ORGANIZATION OFFICERS should make every attempt to be trained in September, it is imperative that if you cannot make a September Session you plan to attend an October session. Beginning November 15, 2009, all consequences will be in place and enforced by each division. In the future, there will be no grace period as student organization officers should attend the next training session offered immediately after taking office. Each officer must be trained only once during his/her term, but must be retrained each year if he/she holds a position again (as policies and challenges change and arise yearly). When an organization selects new officers and immediately re-registers the organization, the newly elected officers must be trained during the first set of trainings offered the month after they take office. Usually multiple sessions are held during the same week, and the officers need only pick one to attend. In order to ensure that students are trained, several privileges will be withheld until the three designates from each student organization attend a session. Once an organization registers their new officers, those officers must attend the next available training session in order to ensure these privileges are not revoked for their group.
