About Jumpstart
Jumpstart’s mission is to work toward the day every child in America enters school prepared to succeed. To this end, Jumpstart trains and supports college students to serve as part-time Corps members, working with young children to build skills crucial to school success.  Jumpstart serves young children in more than 60 communities nationwide. Jumpstart focuses on three program areas: building School Success for young children by fostering their early language, literacy, social, initiative skills; encouraging strong Family Involvement to help families support children’s learning; and training college students to be Future Teachers and leaders in early childhood education. Jumpstart serves young children in more than 60 communities nationwide.

Joining Jumpstart
Jumpstart joined the Emory University campus in the fall of 2008. Located in the Office of Student Leadership and Service, Jumpstart welcomes any students interested in earning work-study funds or volunteering in an AmeriCorps program working with children between the ages of 3 and 5.

Students in the Jumpstart program will travel to and from preschools in teams of 5 to 7 fellow students, and work with a trio of low-income preschoolers from the Atlanta community for the duration of the academic school year. Upon completion of the AmeriCorps program, all students will receive a $1000 education award to spend on future or existing tuition costs or student loans. Jumpstart is a rewarding way to make a difference in the life of a child, network with other students, earn scholarships, and gain internship and post-graduate job opportunities in other AmeriCorps programs.

To apply, visit www.jstart.org, or contact Elise Albrecht, Site Manager, at emalbre@emory.edu.
