Who should be a part of the E.L.E.?
This program is intended for all Emory University undergraduate freshmen, sophomore, transfer, and oxford continuee students who are enrolled in classes at the Atlanta campus, and who are interested in developing key basic leadership skills. To learn more about the overall purpose and learning outcomes for the program, visit our ELE Mission page.

Ideal candidates for this adventure are students who:

  • Want to become more involved on campus.
  • Want to meet other amazing students and current/future student leaders.
  • Want to hold leadership positions on campus.
  • Have an interest in creating a foundational set of personal leadership & interpersonal skills that will help them while in college and professionally.
  • Will commit to attend all E.L.E. Meetings, and the overnight E.L.E. Retreat.
  • Be available to complete the Emory Service Summit (this is a service-learning project)

[Since mandatory workshops will occur throughout the academic year on Wednesday’s from 4pm-6pm, anyone who applies must be available during those time periods. There are only two Wednesday meetings in the fall, and two Wednesday meetings in the Spring; therefore, even if you have class you may be able to work out an excused absence with your professor. If you would like a letter certifying your participation in the program so you can approach your professor, please email Matt Garrett at matt.garrett@emory.edu.]

Is there any cost associate with this program?
Yes there is.  To offset the cost of the overnight retreat, and the materials we will provide over the course of the academic year, each participant must pay a onetime fee of $100, due at the time of registration.

Our office has a very limited number of resources set aside for students who find it difficult to afford this opportunity.  Click here for additional information on ELE Scholarships.

What will I gain from the Experience?
While our curriculum changes from one year to the next, at the very least we expect that each participant will leave the Emerging Leaders Experience with:

  • A deeper awareness of your own leadership style and how that style interacts with other styles.
  • A clearer idea of activities, situations and responsibilities that you are passionate about.
  • Basic conflict management abilities.
  • A stronger ability to be able to work with diverse populations.

Want more information on our leadership philosophy?

Each participant will also be invited to apply to be members of the L.E.A.D. Team, should they choose to do so.

LEAD TeamPlease note:
Partaking in the E.L.E. is not a guarantee of additional leadership roles, including selection for the L.E.A.D. Team.  Participation in the E.L.E. is not required for membership with the L.E.A.D. Team.  Learn more about the L.E.A.D. Team!
