The Emerging Leader Experience- launching leaders since 1996!

Overview

The Emerging Leader Experience (E.L.E.) is designed to support students in developing their leadership skills, widening their social networks and meeting a great new diverse group of friends, building a shared community, and helping each student realize his or her fullest potential.  Every student is a leader and leads in a unique way! The Emerging Leader Experience will help you enhance the skills necessary to be successful during your time at Emory and beyond! The program is open to all undergraduate freshmen, sophomore, transfer, and oxford continuee students.

E.L.E. is a yearlong program. A series of four meetings, an overnight retreat and a culminating Emory Service Summit (service-learning experience) will provide the participants with the motivation and empowerment to grow as leaders, armed with skills and insight to pursue their future endeavors. Reserve your time for these important dates, and to get an idea of the general schedule, take a look at the "Schedule at a Glance."

You will expand your leadership toolkit through a variety of challenging and motivating experiences, where we will hone your current skills related to Student Activism, How Involvement Benefits Your Academics, Multicultural Leadership, Values and Ethics, “What is Leadership” and Leadership Styles, Organization/Student Organization Leadership, Mentorship, and other basic leadership skills like Communication, Public Speaking, and Giving Feedback. Did we mention you will meet over 100 amazing other students with diverse interests and backgrounds - what better way to make new friends! To learn more about the overall purpose and learning outcomes for the program, visit our ELE Mission page.

This is not just a typical leadership retreat!  As part of the complete Experience, you will receive first hand mentoring and guidance not only from Emory professionals, but student leaders just like you!  The L.E.A.D. Team, a group of student leaders, designed this experience with you in mind and with oversight from our office.  The Experience is stretched out over an academic year, and you can easily fit the Experience into your schedule; more importantly, the experience is deisnged so you can build on what you learn over time.  As your confidence and abilities grow, we are right there with you! Each meeting, the conversations and topics will deepen, and leave you with an even broader sense of who you are as a person, as a member of the Emory community, and as a leader!

Alumni of this program often go on to a variety of leadership positions within Residence Life, Orientation, the Student Programming Council, Ultimate Frisbee, the Black Student Alliance, SGA and College Council, just to name a few!
